90 Years of Integrity, Compassion and Love
Born in Tacoma, Washington in 1918 as Komayo Nakagawara, Kay was raised as a young child in Japan with her younger brother Minoru until she graduated high school . She returned to the USA in 1938 to meet her parents and her younger siblings for the first time. She continued to work to earn earn a college degree at a fashion design school in Seattle. When graduated, she married George Yoshio Hara in 1942. As WWII interceded, they were forced to live in the Relocation camps of Minadoka, Idaho. After their release in 1945, they moved East to New York City and started a new life. Their four sons, Edward, Davis, Martin and Gary all grew up in the same Bronx apartment where Kay lives today. The NY Buddhist Church was their personal connection to the Japanese American Community and their practice of the Buddhist way of life in America.
The Family and the Community of the NY Buddhist Church gathered together on April 19th, 2008 to Celebrate Komayo Hara and her 90 years of Integrity, Compassion and Love. All of the guests who attended were presented with this short visual overview of Komayo Hara's life in Japan and the USA. Everyone cheered and acknowledged Kay with their applause, their love and their contributions to the NY Buddhist Church.Happy 90th Birthday Kay! We love you.
